The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Ms Irene Mulyagonja, says it is a constitutional mandate for every citizen to fight corruption.

The IGG was launching the 5th leg of Action Aid Uganda’s Anti-Corruption Caravan under the theme, “Citizens' Action to Fight Corruption”. The Caravan will traverse Kampala city, Iganga, Soroti, Katakwi and Pallisa districts for the next 7 days.

Ms Mulyagonja was glad to note that the Action Aid caravan will traverse districts that were not covered by the recent upcountry road drive by Anti-Corruption Agencies that also plied the eastern route.

She urged all Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to launch in-house grievance handling mechanisms so that only high profile cases are handled by the Inspectorate of Government.

She also blamed the recent boat tragedy on Lake Victoria where scores of revelers lost their lives on corruption. “The boat was unregistered and in poor mechanical condition! How did it get on the water?” She wondered.
