IGG opens 8th ARIN-EA AGM

The Inspector General of Government and President of the Eastern Africa Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (EAAACA), Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, has today officially opened the 8th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network for Eastern Africa (ARIN-EA) in Nairobi, Kenya.
The AGM brings together heads of anti-corruption institutions, investigators, prosecutors and partner organisations from across the region to strengthen cooperation in asset tracing, seizure and recovery. This year’s meeting is held under the theme: “Unmasking Beneficial Ownership in the Fight against Corruption and Recovery of Assets.”
In her opening remarks, the IGG emphasized the growing threat posed by corruption and illicit financial flows to governance, development and justice systems. She underscored the critical role of asset recovery as a tool for accountability and highlighted the importance of transparency in beneficial ownership to enable effective investigations and recovery of illicit assets.
The IGG also noted key achievements of ARIN-EA, including strengthened regional cooperation, capacity building for over 2,000 practitioners, development of mutual legal assistance guidelines and improved information-sharing mechanisms. At the same time, she called for enhanced coordination, timely responses to requests and sustained institutional commitment to improve effectiveness in asset recovery efforts.

IGG pays courtesy call on Senior Resident Judge of Mbale

The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, paid a courtesy call on Hon. Justice Dr. Lubega Farouq, the Senior Resident Judge of Mbale, at his chambers.
During the meeting, the IGG and her host discussed key issues on anti-corruption and explored avenues for strengthening collaboration in the fight against corruption.
The IGG was accompanied by the Director of Anti-Corruption, Mr. Lugolobi Robert; the Director of Ombudsman Affairs, Mr. Kakooza Savio Ntensibe; the Manager Human Resources, Mr. Paul Okello; the Supervisor, Strategic Partnerships and Public Relations, Mr. Farouk Kayondo and the Personal Assistant to the IGG, Mr. Muhammad Mwasa among others.

IG calls for customized strategies to fight corruption in Africa

The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has called for the need to have intentional and purposeful anti-corruption strategies that are driven by clarity of vision and firm commitment.
This clarion call was made by Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, Deputy Inspector General of Government during the Anti-Corruption Conference 2026 that was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 24th to 27th March, 2026.
Dr. Okiria who represented the Inspector General of Government, Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, noted that for the anti-corruption strategies to work effectively, they must be grounded in the African context, moving beyond rhetoric and offering lasting change.
She emphasized that there cannot be best opportunities for investments and increase in the return on investments unless the anti-corruption agencies work hard.
The conference was held under the theme: “Collaborative Governance: Leading the fight against corruption in Africa for improved Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
It was attended by Heads of agencies and representatives from Supreme Audit Institutions and anti-Corruption agencies from over 15 African countries.
This collaboration affirms Africa’s strong commitment to reshaping the mindset against corruption across the continent and changing the status quo.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the Inspectorate of Government and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions at the regional level.

IGG, Auditor General highlight strong institutional collaboration

The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, paid a courtesy call on the Auditor General, Mr. Edward Akol, earlier today.
Mr. Akol congratulated the IGG upon her appointment and commended the longstanding cordial working relationship between the Inspectorate of Government and the Office of the Auditor General.
He noted that the collaboration between the two institutions has enhanced information sharing, reduced duplication of efforts and promoted efficiency in the use of public resources.
Lady Justice Naluzze thanked the Auditor General for the warm reception and reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening and sustaining the collaboration between the two institutions.
The IGG was accompanied by the Deputy Inspectors General of Government, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria and Mrs. Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, the Director of Special Investigations, Mr. Polly Muhairwe, the Director of Anti-Corruption, Mr. Lugolobi Robert, the Manager Strategy, Policy and Planning, Mr. Joseph Pinycwa, among others.

IGG and DPP discuss new strategies to strengthen fight against corruption

The IGG, Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, on January 22nd paid a courtesy call on the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Lino Anguzu, as one of the key stakeholders of the Inspectorate of Government. They discussed new strategies to strengthen the fight against corruption. The Inspectorate of Government and Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions have over the years collaborated in the promotion of the rule of law and elimination of corruption in Uganda.

IG and SHACU agree on stronger collaboration against corruption

The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, on January 22nd paid a courtesy call on the Head of State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke at his office.
SHACU is one of the key anti-corruption institutions that the Inspectorate of Government (IG) collaborates with in the fight against corruption.
The Head SHACU welcomed Her Lordship and congratulated her on the appointment as IGG. He noted the good working relationship that the IG has had with SHACU over the years. He gave a brief on the mandate and operations of the Unit.
The IGG accompanied by officials from the IG extended appreciation to Brig. Gen. Isoke for receiving them and for the collaboration with the IG
They held discussions focusing on the need to address corruption in the country. Some of the key issues discussed included: establishing mechanisms to avoid duplicating investigations, conducting joint investigations of cases of national interest, sending cases to the IG for prosecution, and how to strengthen recovery of illicitly obtained assets.
They agreed to establish a taskforce of senior officials from SHACU and the IG to review corruption cases with an aim of fast-tracking and expediting investigations.

Hon. Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala was on Sunday sworn in as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG) at a ceremony presided over by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in Mbale. She assumes office succeeding Hon. Beti Kamya Turwomwe.
She was joined by the Deputy Inspectors General of Government, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria and Mrs. Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, who were reappointed to continue serving in their respective capacities.

Deputy IGG calls on Nile Basin Secretariat to join anti-corruption efforts

The Deputy Inspector General of Government, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, has urged the Nile Basin Initiative Secretariat to actively engage in the fight against corruption. Speaking at a one-day workshop held on 4th September 2025 at the Secretariat’s headquarters in Entebbe, Dr. Okiria emphasized that winning the war against corruption requires collective effort.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness on corruption and fraud-related issues while equipping participants with practical knowledge on preventing and reporting corrupt practices.
The Secretariat leadership commended the Inspectorate for its efforts in eliminating corruption in Uganda and pledged their support to advance the country’s anti-corruption agenda.

Prime Minister launches IG report on corruption in Local Government job recruitment

During the launch of the report, the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, delivering a speech on behalf of H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, reaffirmed government’s commitment to reforming recruitment processes. She emphasized the automation of recruitment systems as a key measure to curb corruption and urged responsible agencies to take action on the report’s findings.
In her remarks, the Inspector General of Government, Hon. Beti Kamya Turwomwe, revealed that over 35% of public service workers admitted to paying bribes to secure their jobs, with some even resorting to loans. She stressed that the IG’s new strategy includes tracing and recovering assets acquired through corruption, as part of efforts to restore integrity in public service recruitment.
