Ig recovers over ugx1.4 billion

The Inspectorate of Government has recovered UGX 1.463 billion shillings out of the UGX 4 billion that was stolen through illegal compensation for Land in a forest Reserve in Kajjansi.

The said money was recovered from two businessmen from Wakiso district, Hussein Mugumya and Muhammad Kamoga who are jointly charged with the interdicted Wakiso district Surveyor Dr. Joseph Batume.

The two businessmen agreed to have an out of court settlement before the Anti-Corruption Court Judge Lawrence Gidudu.

Kamoga and Mugumya paid UGX 205 million in cash and surrendered the property valued at UGX 1.258 billion.

However, Dr.Batume denies the offences of abuse of office and causing government a financial loss of UGX 4,047,615000 and the matter will go through a full trial.

The matter came up for hearing today Thursday, 20th January, 2022 before Justice Lawrence Gidudu.

The IG Prosecutors were Diana Nantabazi and Jacqueline Mawemuko.
