The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has charged Maracha District Local Government Engineer, George Olega before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo with embezzlement, Abuse of Office and an alternative count of Causing Financial loss.

Court heard that between 2013 and 2015 while employed as District Engineer at Maracha District Headquarters, Olega abused his office he received UGX 20,952,000 earmarked as facilitation for the implementation of various road works and activities at the Uganda – DRC Border and Agii Okaba road, but embezzled and failed to account for UGX 17,186,066 million of that money.

Olega, who appeared before Principal Magistrate Grade One Moses Nabende denied the charges. He then applied and was granted bail of UGX 1.5 million cash and his sureties bonded UGX 7 million not cash.

IG Prosecutor Daisy Acio informed Court that investigations in this case were still ongoing and the Magistrate adjourned the matter to 26th February, 2022.
