The Deputy Inspector General of Government Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe has ordered the arrest of the Rwamurunga Community Secondary School Contractor for abandoning the site.

Muhairwe who was in Isingiro District on Thursday for a community dialogue made an impromptu visit to the school site and was told that the contractor abandoned the site after being paid 80 percent of the money.

In March 2021, the Office of the Prime Minister through the Development Response to Displacement Impacts Project(DRDIP) contracted Buildline Contractors Uganda Limited to construct Rwamurunga Community Secondary School at 1.9 billion Shillings.

The works included the construction of two classroom blocks, an ICT laboratory block, a 2 room science laboratory, a 10,000-litre water tank, five stance latrines, a sports field, and a Multi-purpose hall. Works were supposed to have been completed last year.

However, to date, the work is yet to be completed. The classroom blocks are lacking window and door fittings, and the roofing of the ICT building is also not completed.

Wilson Bagarukayo Salongo the Headteacher says that the contractor asked for an extension of 105 days, which was granted but disappeared.

According to Bagarukayo, the contractor after receiving 1.4 billion Shillings in June, has failed to complete the works.

Alice Asiimwe Rusherure, the Chief Administrative Officer said that they are seeking guidance from the Solicitor General on the next course of action.

Muhairwe said that her office was not aware of what was going on at the school. She ordered that the contractor be arrested.

When contacted, Wilberforce Kagwa the Director Buildline Contractors (U) Limited said that he will not comment on the matter.
