Opinion: Constitute Leadership Code Tribunal

Opinion: constitute leadership code tribunal

The IGG, Irene Mulyagonja, wants two cabinet ministers and some senior government officials to face the Leadership Code Tribunal for failure to declare their wealth.

The challenge is that the Tribunal has not been constituted. While it is a the President’s prerogative to appoint the Tribunal, the Judicial Service Commission can nominate the members but only if assigned by the Justice Minister.

The absence of the Leadership Code Tribunal is just another example of how the effectiveness of the Inspectorate of Government is undermined.

Mr Justice Minister, please constitute the Leadership Code Tribunal soon so that the Government can go beyond paying lip service in fighting corruption.
