The current budget of the Inspectorate of Government which stands at sh43b is not sufficient.

The meager budget allocated to the Inspectorate of Government is hindering the various activities of the institution according to its director of project monitoring.

James Penywii said although the inspectorate is best known for fighting corruption, its other mandates includes administration of justice and enforcement of the leadership code, all requiring significant budget allocation.

Penywii was speaking at the sidelines of a training of NUSAF desk officers, commercial officers and community business agents.

He observed that the current budget of the Inspectorate of Government which stands at sh43b is not sufficient to pay wages as well as meeting other expenses such as rent.

Penywii added that they have acquired land for the construction of a head office in Kampala, but government is yet to provide funds for the project that would cost about sh100b.
